Vegetable glycerine or glycerol is a carbohydrate extracted from certain vegetable oils, mainly palm or coconut.
It is a great moistening agent and has hygroscopic properties, in other words, it absorbs water from the environment, helping the skin retain moisture. However, it is important that its concentration is optimal, since in very dry climates it could produce the opposite effect, dehydrating and drying up the skin. This is due to its property of absorbing water; when the environment is dry, i.e. with low relative humidity, glycerine is not able to extract water from the environment, so it is extracted from the skin.
Vegetable glycerine is hypoallergenic, so it is suitable for all skin types and is very beneficial for sensitive skin.
Another property of glycerine is that it is antibacterial. It is suitable for the prevention and treatment of acne. It helps treat problems such as psoriasis, eczema, ulcers and wounds, healing them faster and regenerating the skin.
