The essential oil Amyris balsamifera is extracted by distilling wood from the tree of the same name. It is a small leafy tree with little white flowers, originally from Jamaica. It also grows in Central America and the northern half of South America, having been introduced in tropical areas around the world. It has a woody, soft, sweet and balsamic aroma.
Its main ingredients are cadinol, cardinene and caryophyllene.
The oil is well-known for its skin regenerating properties, as well as its anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory agents. It is very helpful for soothing, repairing and softening dry, mature or irritated skin.
